Dominique, a passionate Los Angeles native, has always been drawn to the intersection of education and technology. Her journey with Kode With Klossy began with some prior coding experience, but the program introduced her to a new perspective on learning. Kode With Klossy revealed that coding doesn’t have to be rigid or intimidating; it can be fun, collaborative, and accessible. Dominique’s experience in the program sparked a deep interest in teaching and helping others engage with technology in a way that’s personal and enjoyable. She quickly realized that learning in a community—where failure is seen as a part of the process and everyone is supported—was transformative. Through her eight years of involvement as an Instructional Assistant (IA), Dominique honed her ability to connect with scholars and guide them through difficult concepts like machine learning and confusion matrices. She found creative ways to make complex topics more digestible, such as turning a technical challenge into a fun game. Dominique’s love for teaching grew as she saw firsthand how her students learned best when they felt comfortable and understood. Her time with Kode With Klossy reinforced her belief in the power of a supportive learning environment, and it shaped her desire to become a teacher who prioritizes individualized learning and authentic connection. Dominique’s decision to pursue a teaching career was influenced by her passion for helping students learn in ways that go beyond traditional methods. With an English major and a specialization in teaching, she sees the connection between computer science and communication as essential to effective education. For Dominique, teaching is about more than just delivering content; it’s about empowering students to think critically, solve problems, and build their own understanding. She aspires to be the kind of teacher who can connect with students on a personal level, helping them overcome challenges and see their potential. Looking ahead, Dominique hopes to continue mentoring and supporting students in the tech world, offering the same guidance and encouragement she received during her time as a scholar. Her ultimate goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable exploring, failing, and succeeding, knowing they are supported every step of the way. Dominique’s journey with Kode With Klossy has not only transformed her own perspective on learning but has also solidified her commitment to becoming a teacher who fosters creativity, collaboration, and growth.
