Pearl first joined Kode With Klossy during the height of the pandemic, when her sister nudged her to apply to a virtual Web App Development camp. What began as a way to break out of the isolation of COVID quickly became a core part of her journey. In camp, Pearl discovered how much more meaningful computer science could feel when tied to real-world examples she cared about—whether learning arrays through pop songs or building a final project that raised awareness about the conflict in Ukraine. For her, Kode With Klossy wasn’t just about writing code, it was about finding purpose and community in tech. That experience led Pearl to return not once, but twice, as a Kode With Klossy Instructor Assistant. Helping to run London-based camps, she taught lessons on coding, information bias, and tech culture while mentoring the next generation of scholars. Those weeks reinforced her belief that coding is about more than technical ability—it’s also about building spaces of inclusion, accessibility, and joy. Watching scholars light up with excitement over their projects, even on sweltering summer days, confirmed her own passion for education and equity in tech. Today, Pearl is a degree apprentice, working as a data engineer while simultaneously pursuing an academic qualification. Her role centers on optimizing how data is collected and ensuring data quality, ethics, and accessibility—issues she first began to care deeply about during her time with Kode With Klossy. Whether she’s filtering datasets with Python or examining bias in information sources, Pearl approaches her work with the same values that shaped her camp experience: curiosity, responsibility, and a drive to make tech better for everyone. From her first virtual camp to now navigating the fast-paced world of fintech, Pearl’s journey has been defined by growth, resilience, and community. She credits Kode With Klossy for giving her the confidence to take risks, ask questions, and embrace mistakes as part of learning. And whether she’s teaching, coding, or collaborating, she carries forward the belief that technology should not only solve problems, but also reflect and serve the diverse people who use it.
